Pupils at St Martin’s have enjoyed a wonderful Wellness Festival exploring how they express themselves emotionally and the importance of a healthy mind and body.
They collaged their tool kits at the beginning of the week and have planned what they would like to include in them. These will remain in school until Easter before the children can take them home. Children were encouraged to think of items at home and or in school that they could include in their tool kit that if they ever felt they needed reassurance and or comfort. This could be anything from a small teddy, blanket, favourite story, paper and pencils, colouring activities, photos or a song maybe.
The children have been thinking about what different emotions feel like inside them, and what those emotions look like from the outside. This should help the children to identify when they are worried, sad, excited or upset and give them the awareness to spot when someone else in feeling that way too.
Throughout the week, Watergate Class have begun creating their own well being book, containing ideas, tips and resources that are aimed at giving them strategies and insights that might help them. These have included, mindfulness meditation, resilience training, positive affirmations, mindfulness colouring and others. The aim is to build on these resources throughout the year, to help develop resilient, thoughtful and caring children and ultimately adults.
