About the Trust

North West Academies Trust (NWAT) was established in 2011 to open Chester’s first free school, St Martin’s Academy, with the aim of providing world-class education within the academy and free school sector. We currently have seven primary and secondary school across Cheshire and Shropshire and one primary school in pre-opening in Ellesmere Port.

We are an organisation made up of educators and people from commercial backgrounds, with a proven track record in the academy and independent sectors, and experience of international education.

As specialists in providing high-quality education, we are passionate about supporting schools, creating effective infrastructures and helping to ensure outstanding learning opportunities for every child. We aspire to excellence in education and this philosophy underpins everything we do in our schools.

Our experience in running very different schools and understanding the demands placed on the Trust as an organisation is highly beneficial in managing all aspects of new school set-ups and academy conversions. We also offer strategic educational, financial and operational school-to-school support.

Whilst this broad experience within education is at the heart of NWAT, we also provide each school with access to a team skilled in school-to-school support, finance and accounting services, HR, legal services, catering, and marketing and communications. This allows us to deliver practical and effective support and solutions to all of our schools.

Our Trust aims to work with a range of schools in varying social contexts to create a network – both within the Trust and as associate schools – where mutual support and expertise is at the heart of everything we do.
