Warrior trolls wreak havoc in Grosvenor Park
Rachael Lindsay, author of fantasy novel The Warrior Troll, called on the help of Year 3 children at Grosvenor Park C of E Academy and St Martin’s Academy after the little figures ‘escaped’ from her basket and hid in bushes and trees.
The excited children tore round the park to round up the trolls before getting involved in some fun art and crafts projects.
Teacher Charlotte Gill explained: “The children were met by Rachael, she was in a bit of trouble as her family of trolls had escaped!
“After locating them all, they were asked to make some troll faces of their own.
“By putting a big splat of clay on some nearby trees, children sculpted and shaped the clay to form a troll face. They then decorated them with twigs and leaves found on the ground.”
To thank children for their help, Rachael nipped across the road to Grosvenor Park Academy and helped pupils develop their own troll characters.
She read a passage from her book, which is a struggle between good and evil set in a Norwegian forest, and signed copies for the class.
Mrs Gill added: “The children had so much fun and loved getting messy with the clay.
“We love being outdoors and the whole experience inspired them to come up with some great troll characters!”
Emma Boynton, Foundation Stage Manager at St Martin’s, was delighted with the success of the visit. She added: “It was a fantastic shared experience, the children were inspired by Rachael who brought the characters and story to life and it was a wonderful way to celebrate the learning that has taken place this term.”
Grosvenor Park Academy, formerly University Church Free School (UCFS), became part of North West Academies Trust (NWAT) in December.
As sister school to St Martin’s Academy, in Hoole, it now benefits from the shared values that saw St Martin’s rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted within a year of opening in 2013.
Among the other NWAT schools is Delamere Academy, near Northwich, which is ranked the highest performing primary in West Cheshire according to the latest performance tables.
