Delamere CofE Academy pupils couldn’t wait to get in the starting blocks for their summer sports day.
The popular event was cancelled last year due to Covid-19 but the sun was shining and there was nothing to stop the excited children when the 2021 race day came around.
They roared into action to take on various sporting challenges including sprints, relays and obstacle courses.
Head of School Julie Clayton said: “We really missed out last year but I think it made this year even more special.
“We’re fortunate that all our year groups were able to attend and I am particularly happy for our Year 6 pupils that they got to take part one last time before they move onto secondary school.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has made the day possible, including our PTA and parent helpers, and to the team of teachers and support staff here who have done a remarkable job under very difficult circumstances in recent times.
“It’s not been easy for our children and their families either, so huge praise to them for helping us ensure that we were able to deliver a high standard of education throughout the various lockdowns and restrictions. It has been a true team effort.”
Mid-morning snacks of ice cream were provided by Meadow Lea Moo’s and Delamere Events, with lunch provided by Blakemere Village’s mobile pizza oven. All proceeds from sales have gone directly to school to support children’s learning.
The event was the culmination of Sports Week when children competed for their school houses; Foxes, Owls, Squirrels and Hedgehogs.
Overall winners of the Sports Week House Shield were the Foxes.
