Oak View Academy’s youngest pupils got on track to glory thanks to outstanding athletics performances in a competition staged at Tarporley High School.
The Winsford schoolchildren went up against fellow Key Stage 1 pupils from Eaton, Kelsall, Tarvin, Duddon St Peter’s, Bunbury Aldersey, Huxley, Utkinton and Tarporley.
And Oak View were victorious overall after a series of hotly-contested running, throwing and jumping events.
The success has come on the back of the introduction of a new and innovative programme of competitive sport at the school, which is designed to inspire their youngest children.
Oak View pupils are joined in the project by North West Academy Trust’s other schools; Delamere Academy, St Martin’s Academy and Ellesmere Primary School.
The Trust has a clear vision of competitive sport being employed to raise confidence, improve fitness and teach children that winning and losing should be treated with equal importance.
The programme is designed to appeal to all pupils and includes football, netball, orienteering, tag rugby and athletics. Older children help out in roles such as referee, scorer and coach.
