Dedicated teachers and staff at Oak View Academy have received an emotional thank you from pupils and parents in a special ceremony.
The Winsford primary school’s PTA secretly organised an assembly in which every member of staff received an award.
The parents put together the Community Awards Assembly, which was designed to highlight that the school’s recent successes are down to the passion, effort and care of everyone concerned.
Executive Head Fiona Whittaker, who was presented with a certificate confirming a star has been named after her, said: “The awards summed up everything that is great about our school. It was really quite emotional.”
The ceremony came on the back of celebrations at Oak View sparked by the latest schools’ league table results, which placed them second highest in west Cheshire for progress in writing, and as Winsford’s top performing school for attainment.
Ms Whittaker has been in charge of Oak View since it became part of North West Academies Trust (NWAT) in 2014.
Then, she spearheaded its transformation from being ranked the second worst in the country to one of the fastest-improving around, now rated ‘good’ by Ofsted.
She has now been appointed by NWAT as Executive Head at Weaverham Academy, formerly University Primary Academy Weaverham, and will oversee both schools.
Ms Whittaker added: “We are in a very strong position to implement the changes we’ve seen at Oak View, at Weaverham.
“At Oak View there were many obstacles to overcome but we quickly learned that, with a solid foundation and a team who wanted the best for our children, we could achieve something very special.”
