Intrepid pupils at North West Academies Trust schools have been getting out and about as their learning journey takes them far and wide.

The Chester-based academies trust believes getting children out of the classroom in order to gain new and exciting experiences is a vital part of their education.

Packed schedules have included trips by both Rudheath Senior Academy and Grosvenor Park Academy to China.

Children at Delamere Academy, near Northwich, have brushed up on survival skills in Denbighshire, enjoyed artistic adventures in Anglesey, had a taste of history in York, and practised surfing sills in Cornwall.

Winsford’s Oak View Academy’s adventures have taken them from Edinburgh to London, with stops in historic York, at stately homes and Welsh beaches, and topped off with restaurant and cinema visits.

Weaverham Primary Academy enjoyed underwater adventures at Blue Planet Aquarium in Ellesmere Port as well as fun-filled residentials in Wales and a plethora of inter-school sporting fixtures.

Ellesmere Primary School, Shropshire, have travelled to Staffordshire and Wales and taken part in residential stays in Wales and at the Wrekin and Clee Hills.

Chester’s Grosvenor Park Academy and St Martin’s Academy have enjoyed regular outdoor learning expeditions in the historic city, including a sleep over at Grosvenor Museum, as well as trips to Wales and Liverpool for Grosvenor and Denbigshire, Barmouth and Moel Famu for St Martin’s.

Steve Docking, CEO of NWAT, said: “We take children from Year 2 upwards on residential trips.

“Our ‘can do’ culture means children spend a substantial amount of time learning outside the classroom.

“This broad programme of education enables children to achieve well in all areas and is securing high attainment and levels of progress throughout our schools.

“The trips generate huge excitement and are a great way for children to learn, have new experiences and make fantastic memories.”

At all NWAT schools, extra importance is placed on broadening the scope of learning for pupils by taking them into different environments.
