As our enrichment clubs have come to a close this week, many of the children taking part in sports clubs have completed their end of unit assessments.
In judo many of the children achieved their first red belt, while some have progressed further to their yellow belt. All of the children have thoroughly enjoyed the judo club, learning all about the values of the sport and the skills involved.
Similarly in gymnastics the children have been working towards their BAGA awards, for our Year 1’s they have been going through the Level 8 certification. starting with gymnastics shapes and developing on to matched and mirrored sequences. Our older children have been progressing through level 7 and 6, once completed the children extended their learning of the straddle rock, to master the teddy bear roll, first individually, in pairs and then in groups.
This week in PE all of the classes have been outwitting their opponents in a variety of sports. In tag rugby, Northgate have been learning about faking their pass working in small groups to try out lots of different ways to avoid being tagged within a game situation.
Likewise in netball all of the classes have been trying to trick their opposition, improving their dodging skills in an attempt to create space in the game, to receive the ball, a skill that can be transferred across to many sports.
Finally a big well done is needed for our mini hell runners, who completed the little devils challenge at Delamere Forest on Saturday. I hear the goody bags at the end were the perfect end to another brilliant trail run. And as if that wasn’t enough sport for one weekend Mr Sharp headed out again on the Sunday for his first cyclecross event at Heaton Park, it is brilliant to see our St Martin’s stars trying out and enjoying new sports!
